Back to the Basics

Back to Basics, is a block print of native flowers of New England, created to promote the importance of planting native flowers instead of non-native and invasive plants. These types of plants can cause damage to the local ecosystems. I wanted this work to spark thoughts about small ways to create a more healthy earth. As a graphic designer, I typically work digitally but this piece uses one of the origins of graphic design techniques: block printing. I was inspired by many different art pieces while creating these pieces. One was Folly Cove Designers, a group of women printmakers from Gloucester, Massachusetts. This pieces is showcased in Agency of Art: Mercy and Politics at Miclkople Library, Newport RI.
